What is your connection to White Horse Recovery?
I was asked to provide pro bono services in architecture, and later I was invited to serve on the board. I wanted to help. Eventually, it proved helpful when our son needed assistance with addiction, and our community helped him find placement in another program because it was farther from our home at the time, at White Horse Recovery.

If there is one thing you want people to remember about White Horse Recovery, what would that be?
We would love to assist your loved ones with hope filled help who are navigating these challenging challenges of addiction and mental health.

Why did you want to serve on the White Horse Recovery board?
I started serving on the White Horse Recovery Board as a way of offering my own family experience with alcoholism and the healing process that comes with it, including the spiritual power and presence of Jesus Christ, which White Horse provides to clients.  I have had several family members, including my father and two of my brothers, who have needed the services of alcoholism treatment to bring healing and support through this difficult challenge of dealing with an addiction.
What excites you about the mission?
Given what the ministry of White Horse offers through our caring staff and personal attention, this ministry has a track record of transforming and healing lives.  The healing and transformation have been so significant that those who have gone through the program have come to the point of touching other lives by becoming staff of White Horse in order to share the impact they have experienced.

How would you characterize their mission?
The pain people feel is devastating their lives. White Horse is compassionately and courageously engaging people where they are, and together, we are winning.

If there is one thing you want people to remember about White Horse Recovery, what would that be?
We all need help in different times and seasons of our lives. White Horse exists to come alongside individuals in those difficult seasons and walk with them until they, too, can go and do the same for someone else.

Why serve on the White Horse Recovery board?
I’ve had close family members who struggled with addiction. I was powerless to help them personally, but joining the board of White Horse, I can, in a small way, help others who are struggling.
What would you say to someone unfamiliar with White Horse Recovery?
People struggling with addiction deserve kindness, love, compassion, and empathy more than anything else. This population often self-loathes… it’s our duty to bear some of their pain—showing that we care. When one person is weak, another can help strengthen them… working together, even to lift one life out of darkness, makes it all worthwhile.

What drew you to focus on addiction issues, particularly with children?
Seeing kids being born addicted to drugs was heartbreaking and really opened my eyes to the scope of the problem we’re facing in our community. It’s not just an individual issue—it affects entire families and our whole valley.
What are your hopes for the future of White Horse Recovery?
I just hope we can move forward with the housing initiative and eventually have hundreds of supervised housing units in our area and the northern part of the state. I hope we can continue to expand and build on what we’ve got underway. The need is there, and we have the dedication and experience to make a real difference in people’s lives.
